6 am © 2022 Susan Turner, Mark Evans
It's 6 am and it's cold out here, the sun is blinding
You’re still trying to break this curse
And you’re making promises that you’ll find hard to keep
You got caught up in this broken universe
You’ve got to tell me what you’re thinking
We’ve been friends for too long to not do that
The monkeys and your demons they still keep hounding you
And jumping on your back
Change sometimes comes hard
Learn to how to bend the rules
When you’ve been dealt the wrong card
Stop acting the fool
Change sometimes comes hard
I don't know why I never said I’ll love you whatever
But you’ve got to read between the lines
When I put my faith in magic things get better
Words get so messed up and sound unkind
You don't ever have to justify yourself to me
When you're damned and compromised don't back out now
Even if you think the world is against you
What you scared of anyhow?
Change sometimes comes hard
Learn to how to bend the rules
When you’ve been dealt the wrong card
Stop acting the fool
Change sometimes comes hard
So get your best clothes on
Each Monday still comes around
You’ve got to fake it till you make it
That's something the wise men say
So put your hands together and pray
Put your song on the jukebox
Sometimes the only thing to do is drive.
It's not time to curl up and hide

Lies

Lies © 2022 Susan Turner, Mark Evans
My stomach's curled up in circles
It feels like a million curses
cos the secret I can't tell you hangs in my throat
and I’m not thinking as straight as I could
I’m still hanging from the ceiling
You’ll forgive me like I always knew you would
Make sure you lock the door behind me
I you ever want to find me
I’ll be chipping off the plaster in this empty house
So choose your destruction carefully
cos it splits the perfect lie beneath
Take someone else's words and make them mine
I love you is such a beautiful lie
I love you is such a beautiful lie
Sunday afternoon’s turning
I can smell the bonfire burning
The taste of paraffin and sweet perfume
You’re playing russian roulette with my soul
I’m gonna wait till the light goes
Tell me something I don't already know
What's going on with you.
So choose your destruction carefully
cos it splits the perfect lie beneath
Take someone else's words and make them mine
I love you is such a beautiful lie
I love you is such a beautiful lie
We were never any good at this
So I don't think we should think about it
I don't think we should think about it

Ashes © 2022 Susan Turner, Mark Evans
The smell of the fire burning it’s like creosote and rubber
With cheap flowers and perfume it gets covered
While we stand as silent as the silent hymns we can't sing
Everything feels like it's falling apart again
We drive in the cold morning past fields by motorways
And this drops to the earth in a streak of silver emptiness
Oh for one more kiss, for a moment on your skin
What you want to touch is disintegrating
Hold on tight, tilI I say you can let go
It feels like the bottom of the world is missing
So hold on tight
The grey line of the horizon splits the sky from the sea
Ashes fall like blackened angels delicately
The stones bite into my wet leather boots, makes it all feel real
I’m closing my eyes so I can't see.
Hold on tight, till I say you can let go
It feels like the bottom of the world is missing
So hold on tight
So hold on tight, till I say you can let go
So hold on tight, till I say you can let go
Hold on tight, till I say you can let go
So hold on tight, till I say you can let go
Hold on tight, till I say you can let go
you can let go….
The smell of the fire burning it’s like creosote and rubber
With cheap flowers and perfume it gets covered
While we stand as silent as the silent hymns we cant sing….

Storm

Storm © 2022 Susan Turner, Mark Evans
I’m beneath a billion stars
I can't see you through the heat of the fire
I can hear the rain falling
Shattering a thousand telephone wires
It's times like this I need you the most
But Honey you can't get too close
Give me a reason time and time again
It feels like… a storm is coming
While you’re talking in your sleep
I’m dream hopping with my fears and worries
You can't find that peace of mind
I have flashes of everyone else's life stories.
It's times like this I need you the most
But Honey don't get too close
Give me a reason time and time again
but I can hear …. the storm is coming
I've got to hold my breath and start counting
I know you’re tired and my heart's pounding
But we’re gonna have to hold out a little bit longer
Then that storm's gonna come.
Over in the fields the sky’s darkening
We’re caught out here wasting too much time talking
The sky's unpicking every fragment
When the birds stop singing
Its times like this I need you the most
But Honey don't get too close
Give me a reason
It feels like thunder pressing in my brain
I’m driving too fast down this country lane
Give me a reason time and time again
I’m sliding down the window
and I can see……. the storm is coming

Lay Across My Bones

Lay Across My Bones © 2022 Susan Turner, Mark Evans
The words that you said, hung beneath the sky
You’re staring straight back at me and it's impossible to move
So I hold my breath
In this barrenness
And all its emptiness
It's fragile and delicate
You push against me, against every piece of my clothing
So close it gets harder to breathe, I could be somewhere else
There is no escape
When the wind turns
It can't stop, it can't rest, it can't hide
You’re wrapped around me with an inch and a half of space
Lay across my bones
The wind and the salt and the rain blows across Dungeness
Lay across my bones
I cant get past you with my arms outstretched
Someone tell us what to do in this lonely place
When you have to run
And you can't catch up
And its not enough
If it's what I've done
And I’m bound to you
And I’m on your side
But I’m out of breath
And I’m out of time
You’re wrapped around me with an inch and a half of space
Lay across my bones
The wind and the salt and the rain blows across Dungeness
Lay across my bones
Lay across my bones
So I hold my breath
In this barrenness
And all its emptiness
It's fragile and delicate
There is no escape
When the wind turns
It can't stop, it can't rest, it can't hide
You’re wrapped around me with an inch and a half of space
Lay across my bones
The wind and the salt and the rain blows across Dungeness
Lay across my bones
Lay across my bones Lay across my bones
Lay across my bones Lay across my bones
We turn away, turn away at the same time
